DVD ONE: Neuromuscular Harmony
The teachings of Grantly Dick-Read, M.D. are the primary focus of class one. In his book, Childbirth Without Fear, Dr. Read teaches about the effects of fear on body chemistry and how that negatively affects labor and birth. It is in this class that you will learn the influence you have in labor. Labor is not something that just happens to you. You are an active participant in your contractions, and you influence there outcome; and in turn the outcome of labor overall. This class is the foundation upon which the tools of labor are built. When you know why you are doing something in labor, you will do it well.
DVD TWO: Stages of Labor
This class will orient you with the natural progression of normal labor. It is in this class that you will learn about the different parts of labor and what happens during each part. You will learn basic birth terminology in order to help you determine progress in labor. You will also learn the correct method of timing contractions for the purpose of communicating accurate information to your caregiver. Most importantly, the labor support person will learn how to properly care for a woman in early labor to help protect her from the enemies of birth; fetal malposition, dehydration and exhaustion. The care you give her in this stage will make all the difference in the outcome of her labor and birth.
DVD THREE: Tools of Labor – First Stage
First stage labor is the time when the uterus opens. This happens is several ways; the effacement of the cervix, the positional change of the cervix, the dilation of the cervix and some descent of the baby into the pelvis. During this stage, you will learn to use specific techniques to assist your body in the labor; to lessen the pain of contractions, and to help with the progression of labor.

DVD FOUR: Tools of Labor – Second Stage
Second stage labor is a three part event; descent, rotation and expulsion. Once the cervix is fully open; the baby will begin his descent to the pelvic floor, once there he will complete his rotation for an optimal delivery position, and then will mould his head to fit the pelvis and burrow further in with each push. The cardinal movements of birth pertain to this stage of labor; whereas shoulders and head will rotate to accommodate the pelvic diameters until birth. You will learn effective pushing techniques; that will conserve your energy, and help prevent a failure to progress in this stage.

Workbook: Comfort in Childbirth
This is the workbook which will accompany the Comfort in Childbirth DVD Series. The workbook complements each DVD and is a visual guide as you work thru each of the 4 main DVDs.
DVD FIVE + WORKBOOK: Breastfeeding Class
Breastfeeding worldwide is the optimal nutritional source for all human babies. Beyond nutrition, it provides lifesaving immunities, and nurturing the human infant requires. Nothing can compare to the breastfeeding where the human brain is concerned; which explains 2 to 3 years of breastfeeding being the norm in other cultures. It is only in the United States and perhaps a few other highly developed nations that breastfeeding is for so short a period as 2 to 6 months. Even though the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends breastfeeding for 1 year, our cultural demands make this difficult for many women. Even though it may be difficult, breastfeeding is the greatest gift a mother can give her child. A college education pales in comparison. This class will prepare you to breastfeed your baby. You will learn practical information about positioning and latch-on that will make your chances of success a given. Breastfeeding is an art to be learned, and almost all problems are resolvable. You will also learn about the first postpartum week and what to expect and how to handle it. Most parents are overwhelmed by the changes a baby brings. The more you know the easier the transition to parenthood will be.

WORKBOOK: Class Handouts
It is in this WORKBOOK that you will learn about the value of Optimal Fetal Positioning. I consider this an integral part of the series and it should not be missed; optimal fetal position of the baby within the womb is vital to the progress of labor. Mainstream medicine does not focus on this aspect of labor to the degree it should. I believe that the 2007 cesarean rate of 31.8% (Center for Disease Control) would not be so high if they did, as well as other aspects of labor intervention, such as, induction and early epidural anesthesia. Several other topics will be discussed such as: natural ways to help start a labor; information to help with decisions regarding immunizations at birth; important observations for breastfeeding preparation and more.
